About Us

Cumming Timbers and Veneers is a family owned and operated business with over 30 years of experience. It is this that has enabled us to build and maintain a loyal client base to which we provide quality Tasmanian timbers and veneers.

In the past we have concentrated on the production of solid timber for the furniture industry but as the timber industry has moved toward plantation timber we have recognised the need to start processing veneer to conserve some of the Tasmanian timber species already in short supply.

Tasmanian forests contain natural, cultural and economic values that are managed in a manner that will optimise the benefits for both current and future generations. This is achieved through the Forest Practices Act of 1985, which was passed, to ensure that forest operations are conducted in an environmentally acceptable manner on both public and private land. The Act forms part of a broader legislative and policy framework that provides the basis for sustainable forest management in Tasmania by ensuring that a Forest Practices Plan covers all forest operations. These plans are prepared in accordance with the Forest Practices Code which provides a set of standards for the protection of environmental values, in particular: soils, geomorphology, visual landscape, water quality and flow, flora, fauna and cultural heritage.

Logs sourced by Cummings Timbers and Veneers only come from forests that are managed in accordance with the Tasmanian Forestry Practices Act of 1985. This ensures that the special values contained within Tasmania’s forests are protected for generations to come.

All sawmilling is carried out in tried and proven traditional methods to ensure on-going commitment to quality production. Logs for sawmilling and veneer production are hand picked to ensure individual grain and character is of the highest standard. Staff have been trained to recognise specific qualities in selecting particular species for sawmilling production.
